Rooma Desai is a small-batch potter. She creates one-of-a-kind, beautiful, functional pottery in her studio in Acton, MA. Each piece is handmade, either wheel-thrown or hand-built from a slab of clay, featuring unique forms and textures. She works with stoneware and porcelain clay. Her work features a wide array of glaze styles—from crystalline and drippy finishes to richly layered colors.

Working in my home studio I create vibrant and colorful hand dyed cotton clothing using fiber reactive dyes. I fold each piece of clothing and then apply liquid dye that is made by mixing the powdered dye with water from my well. How I fold and apply the dye creates each design. After waiting 24 hours to allow the dye to bond to the fabric, I remove the rubber bands and triple wash each piece to remove excess dye. No two pieces are exactly alike!
