MISSION
The mission of the Acton-Boxborough Farmers Market is to showcase local sustainable agriculture and promote organic practices; to educate the public on food and agriculture topics; to provide for direct, informed relationships between farmers and consumers; and to benefit local farmers and the local economy, as well as public health, community vitality, and regional environmental and economic sustainability.
HISTORY
The ABFM began in 2008 with a small group of local folks who wanted to help promote a local, sustainable food system. In 2018, it celebrated its first decade of operation — during which much was learned and many community connections were established and strengthened. We are grateful for all of those connections, and for the generosity of so many people in helping the market develop into the community institution it is today.
Now, as in the beginning, we are eager to provide the community with information, purchasing opportunities (Real Food!), and chances to learn about food and agriculture, sustainability, and their relationship to human and environmental health!
The market operates with the support of our Partners and Sponsors; see our Partners’ logos in the footer, below, and learn more about them at ABFarmersMarket.org/partners and our Sponsors at ABFarmersMarket.org/sponsors.
A PRODUCER-ONLY MARKET
What does that mean? It means that vendors may sell only the produce and/or value-added products that they themselves grow or make. This policy eliminates confusion, provides market-goers with clear information about food sourcing, and promotes integrity in all market standards.
EBT/SNAP BENEFITS
The ABFM happily accepts EBT/SNAP benefits for all allowable items. Ask at the ABFM stall about our SNAP “matching” program. Individual vendors may accept WIC and/or HIP.
